God knit your children together in the womb. Now the government wants you to fund their destruction. Scripture already settled who wins.
Fund the drugs that end a life. Pay for procedures that mutilate a healthy body. Cover it all, or pay the fine.
That is the choice the federal government has put in front of Christian employers.
Right now, mandates require Christian business owners to fund insurance coverage for abortifacients, late-term abortion, and gender-transition procedures. Refuse on grounds of faith, and the penalties are not symbolic. One family faced fines of up to $475 million a year for saying no.
Let that number land. $475 million. In a single year. For refusing to pay for what their faith forbids.
This is the Fourth Freedom: Healthcare Freedom. The right to run your health plan by conviction, not coercion. And Scripture spoke to the sanctity of life, and the guilt of those who fund its destruction, long before any mandate was written.
Your health plan is a matter of conscience. Not paperwork.
Let’s start where the answer starts. In the text.
Start in the Text: Four Passages That Settle It
The Bible does not treat life as a policy question left to regulators. It grounds life in the creative act of God, forbids its taking, and warns those who share in the guilt of what they fund. Four passages make the ground unmistakable.
Exodus 20:13 — You Shall Not Murder
The command is four words. It leaves no room for negotiation.
“You shall not murder.” (Exodus 20:13, ESV)
This is one of the Ten Commandments. Not a cultural preference. Not a debatable position. A direct, permanent prohibition written by the finger of God.
The taking of innocent life is not a gray area in Scripture. It is a red line. And a mandate that forces you to fund the drugs and procedures that end a life does not merely ask for your money. It asks you to bankroll the very thing God forbids.
You cannot pay for what God has prohibited and call your hands clean.
Psalm 139:13-14 — God Forms Life in the Womb
Scripture does not describe the unborn child as a cluster of cells. It describes a person, known and formed by God, before the first breath.
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:13-14, ESV)
Read the verbs. God formed. God knitted together. The life in the womb is not an accident to be managed. It is a work of God, made on purpose, known by name.
This is why the abortion question is not political for the Christian. It is theological. When a mandate forces you to fund the destruction of a life God knitted together, it is asking you to help undo the work of the Creator Himself.
Fearfully and wonderfully made. That is what your dollars would be paying to destroy.
Acts 5:29 — Obey God Rather Than Men
The apostles were ordered by the ruling authorities to stop preaching. Their answer was five words that have echoed through every generation of the faithful since.
“We must obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29, ESV)
They did not deny the government’s power. They acknowledged it, and they refused anyway.
Apply that to the mandate in front of you. When the state commands you to fund what God forbids, you are standing exactly where the apostles stood. A human command collides with a divine one. Scripture is not vague about which wins.
You obey God. Not the mandate.
Proverbs 14:12 — The Way That Seems Right
Scripture warns that human reasoning, left to itself, will justify the unjustifiable.
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” (Proverbs 14:12, ESV)
The mandates arrive dressed in the language of care, access, and compassion. They seem right. They are marketed as healthcare. But Scripture warns you to look past the label to the end of the road.
A framework that calls the ending of life “care” has renamed death to make it easier to fund. That is the way that seems right. Its end is the way to death. Literally.
Name the Principle: You Cannot Fund What God Forbids
Pull these four passages together and a single principle emerges.
Life is sacred because God creates it, and no authority can compel you to pay for its destruction.
Sit with each half of that sentence. Both matter.
Life is sacred because God creates it. The sanctity of life is not grounded in sentiment or a court ruling. It is grounded in the creative act of God, who knits each person together in the womb. That makes the taking of innocent life not just wrong, but an offense against the Creator.
No authority can compel you to pay for its destruction. This is the doctrine of moral complicity. Scripture does not treat the one who funds evil as innocent simply because someone else carried it out. To pay for the drug is to share in the act. To fund the procedure is to participate in the outcome. Your money is not neutral. It carries your conscience with it.
Three biblical truths hold this up.
Life belongs to God, who made it. Psalm 139 settles whose work the unborn child is. Not the state’s. God’s.
Taking innocent life is forbidden. Exodus draws the line in four words. No mandate can move it.
Funding evil is sharing in evil. Scripture ties complicity to guilt. You cannot pay for what God prohibits and claim clean hands.
This is not a modern political argument bolted onto the Bible. It is the settled testimony of the Law, the Psalms, and the Apostles.
And that testimony is exactly what is under attack right now.
Trace the Threat: The Mandate Is Here
The threat to your conscience does not arrive as a knock on the door. It arrives as a line item in your health plan. A federal requirement. A benefits form you are told to sign or pay dearly for refusing.
This is not paranoia. These are documented mandates, active court cases, and dollar-denominated penalties aimed directly at Christian employers who run their health plans by conviction.
The Contraceptive and Abortifacient Mandate
Under the Affordable Care Act, federal mandates require employers to fund insurance coverage for contraceptives, including drugs that can end a life after conception. For a Christian employer who believes life begins at conception, this is not a coverage question. It is a demand to fund the destruction of a life God formed.
Hobby Lobby
The Green family, owners of Hobby Lobby, refused to fund abortifacients through their company health plan. The federal government’s answer was a penalty of up to $475 million a year.
Read that again. $475 million. Every year. For one family refusing to violate their faith.
They fought it all the way to the Supreme Court. In Burwell v. Hobby Lobby (2014), the Court ruled in their favor. A victory. But look at the cost. Years in court. Enormous legal expense. One family against the machinery of the federal government, staking everything on a conviction Scripture settled thousands of years ago.
Your business should not need a Supreme Court victory to survive. But that is the game as it stands.
Gender-Transition Mandates
The pressure did not stop at abortion. Federal agencies have moved to require employers to fund and, in some cases, facilitate gender-transition procedures. This forces Christian employers to pay for the surgical and chemical alteration of healthy bodies, in direct violation of the belief that each person is fearfully and wonderfully made, exactly as God formed them.
The Pattern Behind the Threats
These are not separate problems. They are one strategy with one shape.
Coverage replaces conscience. Your health plan becomes a tool to force participation in what your faith forbids.
Compliance replaces conviction. The choice to fund evil is taken out of your hands and written into federal law.
Penalty replaces persuasion. They do not argue you out of your faith. They fine you out of it.
Here is the hard reality. Hobby Lobby faced up to $475 million a year. Defending your conscience alone, in a single case, can cost more than $1 million in legal fees and years of your life. Fight exposed, and pay everything. Or stand differently.
Your health plan is a matter of conscience. Not paperwork.
The Two Paths in Front of You
Scripture never told the faithful to stand alone. The apostles stood together before the council. The Green family did not win in a vacuum. Courage was collective. So is protection.

The Christian Employers Alliance holds two permanent federal court injunctions protecting its members. In CEA v. Azar (2019), CEA secured a permanent injunction shielding its members from the mandate to cover abortion-causing drugs. In CEA v. EEOC (2024), won alongside Alliance Defending Freedom, CEA blocked the mandate to cover and perform gender-transition procedures.
These are not opinions or policy positions. They are permanent federal court orders, protecting every member, present and future, from the mandates that cost other employers everything.
No lawsuit. No legal fees. No years in court.
That is the difference between standing exposed and standing protected.
Call to Action: Not Fear. Courage.
Here is what Scripture never does. It never answers a threat with fatalism.
When God revealed what was coming, He called His people to act. Joseph prepared for famine seven years before it arrived. Nehemiah rebuilt the wall while opponents tried to stop him. Esther walked into the throne room at the exact moment the cost was highest.
The awareness that your health plan is being turned into a weapon against your faith is not a reason to retreat. It is a reason to engage. With wisdom. With courage. And with others who understand exactly what is at stake.
Know what Scripture actually says. The sanctity of life runs from Exodus to the Psalms to the Apostles. Christians who understand this will not be shaken when the mandate lands. They will recognize the pattern.
Name the threat honestly. A mandate to fund abortifacients and gender-transition procedures is not healthcare. It is coerced complicity. Call it what it is.
Refuse to fund what God forbids. Your money is not neutral. It carries your conscience. Decide now that your dollars will not pay for the destruction of a life God formed.
Do not stand alone. The most effective resistance is not individual heroism. It is a network of Christian employers who share values, share protection, and stand together.
History does not remember those who understood a threat and stayed comfortable. It remembers those who understood it and stood.
