Part of the Biblical Foundations of the Five Freedoms series.

God cared about your money thousands of years before central banks existed. He still does. And what He said about it should stop you cold.

A false balance is an abomination to the Lord.

That is not a suggestion. That is not economic theory. That is God, in Proverbs, using the same word He reserves for idolatry to describe a rigged scale.

Now read this. A government-issued digital currency would let federal agencies watch every transaction you make. Freeze your accounts. Block your purchases. Switch off your money based on a compliance score you never agreed to.

That is not a hypothetical. It is being built right now. In legislation. In central bank research papers. In the payment systems already freezing Christian business owners out of the economy.

The rigged scale God called an abomination is being coded into software. At civilizational scale.

This is the Second Freedom: Economic Freedom. The right to earn, save, and transact without surveillance or punishment. And Scripture has more to say about it than most Christians have ever been told.

Let’s start where the answer starts. In the text.

Start in the Text: Three Passages That Settle It

The Bible does not treat money as a secular matter left to economists. From Leviticus to Proverbs to Revelation, Scripture engages directly with how money is measured, who controls it, and where the concentration of financial power ultimately leads. Three passages form the backbone.

Leviticus 19:35-36 — The Foundation of Honest Weights

Before any discussion of money in Scripture, there is a more basic concern: honesty in measurement.

“You shall do no wrong in judgment, in measures of length or weight or quantity. You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.” (Leviticus 19:35-36, ESV)

Notice what follows the command. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt. God does not ground honest weights in economic efficiency. He grounds it in His own identity and in the act of liberation. The people He freed from bondage are now commanded to build a society free from economic deception.

Why does God care whether a merchant uses an accurate scale?

Because a dishonest weight is theft dressed up as commerce. It lets the powerful extract value from the weak through the very system meant to guarantee fair exchange. The seller who shaves the scale is not just cheating a customer. He is corrupting the instrument of trust that all legitimate commerce depends on.

That principle runs straight into money itself. When a government inflates its currency, it quietly drains the purchasing power of every dollar you already hold. When a central bank issues programmable digital currency, it reserves the right to redefine what your money can do, where it can go, and whether it holds value at all.

That is not an honest weight. That is a rigged scale.

Proverbs 11:1 — The Abomination of False Balances

The Proverbs return to the theme with striking force.

“A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight.” (Proverbs 11:1, ESV)

The word translated “abomination” is the Hebrew toevah. The same word Scripture uses for practices God finds deeply offensive. This is not mild disapproval. This is moral revulsion.

A false balance is an abomination. A just weight is His delight. The contrast is absolute. God does not view monetary deception as an unfortunate but understandable pressure. He places it in the same serious register as idolatry.

So what does a “just weight” look like in a monetary system? At minimum, it requires that money hold a consistent, honest relationship to the value it represents. Sound money, in the biblical sense, is money that cannot be secretly manipulated to transfer wealth from those who earn it to those who issue it.

A programmable central bank digital currency, with spending restrictions, expiration dates, and government-controlled parameters, does not merely allow a dishonest weight. It encodes the dishonesty into the currency itself.

Revelation 13:16-17 — The End of Private Commerce

The most sobering passage is also the most explicit. Revelation 13 describes a coming system where economic participation is tied to compliance.

“Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name.” (Revelation 13:16-17, ESV)

Christians hold a range of views on the timing and interpretation of this passage. But whatever your framework, three things are clear from the text itself.

First, the system is explicitly financial. The mechanism of control is not conquest or open persecution. It is exclusion from commerce. The inability to buy or sell. Economic coercion at the most fundamental level.

Second, the system is universal. All, both small and great, both rich and poor. No one is exempt.

Third, participation requires allegiance to an authority that stands against God. Economic access becomes contingent on a loyalty believers cannot give.

For most of church history, this was read as a warning about a future no technology could enforce. You could not track every transaction, control every purchase, and exclude a non-compliant person from all commerce at once.

That technology now exists. And it is being actively built.

Name the Principle: Honest Money Is a Moral Category

Pull these three passages together and a single principle emerges.

Money is a moral category, and the freedom to earn, hold, and exchange it honestly is grounded in the character of God.

Four biblical truths hold that principle up.

Honest weights are a moral demand. Leviticus does not treat fair measurement as good business practice. It treats it as obedience to God. A monetary system that can be manipulated by decree fails that standard at the root.

Just exchange protects the weak. A rigged scale always serves the powerful at the expense of everyone else. God’s concern for honest weights is a concern for the vulnerable, the ones who have no ability to fight back when the system is rigged against them.

Property is entrusted, not surrendered. Throughout Scripture, the fruit of honest work belongs to the one who earned it. The eighth commandment forbids theft. The prophets condemned rulers who seized what was not theirs. A currency that can be frozen or switched off by a bureaucrat treats your property as the state’s to control.

Stewardship requires freedom. God calls His people to build, save, give, and provide. Every one of those callings assumes you actually control what you earn. Strip away that control, and you strip away the ability to steward at all.

This is not a modern political argument bolted onto the Bible. It is the settled testimony of Scripture, from the scales of Leviticus to the marketplace of Revelation.

And that testimony is exactly what is under attack right now.

Trace the Threat: The Rigged Scale Is Here

The threat to your money does not arrive with a furnace or a warning. It arrives as convenience. As a software update. As a bill in the Senate most business owners have never read.

This is not paranoia. These are documented policies, funded agendas, and open legislative proposals aimed directly at your freedom to earn, save, and transact by conviction.

Central Bank Digital Currency

A government-issued CBDC is not a payment upgrade. It is a redesign of the relationship between you and the state, expressed through your money.

A fully realized CBDC would let federal agencies monitor every transaction. Freeze accounts. Block purchases. Restrict commerce based on political or social compliance scores. Money that can be programmed with expiration dates, spending limits, and geographic restrictions is not a neutral medium of exchange. It is a tool of control.

Every dollar you earn. Every vendor you pay. Visible. Trackable. Controllable.

Programmable Money and the CLARITY Act

The framework is being written now. The CLARITY Act builds the infrastructure for programmable money, identity-linked transactions, and the systems that make financial exclusion permanent.

That last word matters: permanent. Once the architecture is in place, the rigged scale does not have to be rebuilt each time it is used. It runs by default.

Debanking

You do not have to wait for a CBDC to feel this. It is already happening.

Openly Christian business owners face payment processor freezes. Account closures with no explanation and no appeal. Debanking that cuts a business off from the financial system for holding the wrong convictions. The tools of Revelation 13, the ability to say you cannot buy or sell, are being tested on faith-driven employers today.

The Pattern Behind the Threats

These are not separate problems. They are one strategy with one shape.

Surveillance replaces privacy. Every transaction becomes visible to an agency that never asked your permission.

Control replaces ownership. Your money answers to a compliance score, not to you.

Exclusion replaces due process. Your account can be frozen without a charge, a trial, or an appeal.

Here is the hard reality. By the time a threat like this becomes law, fighting it alone can cost more than $1 million per case. And you cannot litigate your way out of a system that has already switched off your ability to pay the lawyer.

Your money should answer to you. Not to a compliance score.

The Two Paths in Front of You

Scripture never told the faithful to stand alone. Joseph stored grain for a nation. Nehemiah rebuilt the wall with the people working shoulder to shoulder, a tool in one hand and a weapon in the other. Strength was collective.

So is protection.

Standing AloneStanding With CEA
Legal exposureA frozen account with no appealPermanent legal protection, day one
Cost$1 million or more in legal feesNo lawsuit. No legal fees. No years in court.
OutcomeUncertain, even if you winTwo permanent federal court injunctions already in place
TimelineYears of litigationProtection starts immediately

The Christian Employers Alliance holds two permanent federal court injunctions protecting its members, and it advocates at the federal and state level against government overreach into how Christian businesses operate. Not opinions. Not policy statements. Permanent federal court orders, protecting every member, present and future.

No lawsuit. No legal fees. No years in court.

That is the difference between standing exposed and standing protected.

Call to Action: Not Fear. Courage.

Here is what Scripture never does: it never answers a threat with fatalism.

When God revealed what was coming, He called His people to act. Joseph prepared for famine seven years before it arrived. Nehemiah rebuilt the wall while enemies plotted. Esther walked into the throne room at the exact moment the cost was highest.

The awareness that your money is being pulled into a system of surveillance and control is not a reason to withdraw. It is a reason to engage. With wisdom. With courage. And with others who understand exactly what is at stake.

Know what Scripture actually says. God’s concern for honest weights runs through the Law, the Wisdom books, and the Prophets. Christians who understand this will not be surprised by what is being built. They will recognize the pattern.

Name the threat honestly. A CBDC is not a payment method upgrade. It is a fundamental redesign of the relationship between the government and your money. Call it what it is.

Act while the window is open. American legislation on digital currency is still being written. The provisions that would require explicit congressional authorization before any CBDC can be issued represent real resistance. That resistance holds only if Christian business owners keep the pressure on.

Do not stand alone. The most effective resistance is not individual heroism. It is a network of Christian employers who share values, share information, and stand together.

History does not remember those who understood a threat and stayed comfortable. It remembers those who understood it and acted.

You are living in the chapter where the trajectory becomes visible to anyone paying attention.

Take Your Stand

Leviticus commanded honest weights. Proverbs called a false balance an abomination. Revelation warned of a day when no one could buy or sell without permission.

That day is being built in software right now.

You do not have to face it alone.

Add your name to the Restoration Pledge. It is private. It is free. Your name is never published or shared. It is your commitment to stand, to engage, and to defend the freedom to earn, save, and transact by conviction.

Protect your business through CEA. Permanent legal protection, starting day one. No lawsuit. No legal fees. No years in court.

The principle is settled. The threat is here. The choice is yours.

Your money should answer to you. Not to a compliance score.
